Say what you will about AT&T (US)…

Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at 8:24 am

…but their BlackBerry data plans are way cheaper than Ripoff Rogers. Of course any US cell carrier is cheaper than any Canadian carrier, which is why we need more competition up here (not going to happen with the cost of rolling out a new network).

Take a look at this. The BlackBerry International data plan has UNLIMITED international data (hence the name) for $70/month. Our plan here at work with Rogers? Unlimited domestic data, but 5 cents PER KILOBYTE out of the country. Take a look at how many Ks some of the emails in your inbox are, even without attachments. Receiving emails with even moderate-sized attachments quickly puts you up into the hundreds - or even thousands - of dollars a month.

It seemed like a good idea at the time

Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at 9:53 pm

I was heading to MEC and heard a crash behind me, turning around to see this car that had just rear-ended the green Mazda barely visible in the upper left. Despite the rad pushed in, and coolant pouring out, the driver decided it’d be a smart idea to flee the scene when her victim pulled over to inspect his truck. Since she was leaving a watery trail down 8th St, it was easy for him (and later me) to follow and find her. I’d be amazed if the engine in the Vision wasn’t seized.

Thank you

Thank you, Dancing with the Stars costumers, for making a tiny little outfit for Karina that didn’t want to stay up on that spectacular butt of hers.

Oooo…

Monday, September 24, 2007 at 9:41 pm

I know those of you who regularly suffer through my blog-drooling over Dancing with the Stars and its spectacular dancing (and even more spectacular female dancers, especially the pros) will be happy when I point out that tonight (right now, as I type) is the season premiere. Yes, I’m watching it, and recording Chuck. It’s ladies night.

All my favourite pros are back, looking even better than last season, especially the frustratingly young Julianne Hough. One of the stars this season is Jane Seymour, and I have to say that she looks amazing for 56, but mmm… Josie Maran.

Wow. Cheetah Girl can work it.

Who… are you

As utterly cheesy as the CSI franchise is, I let myself get suckered in to watching CSI Miami just now (NO, it has nothing to do with the hot women). Tonight, I have to give the producers big points for using the new Foo Fighters single, The Pretender, in the ‘climactic’ chase scene.

If you’re keeping score, that’s one in the ‘pro’ column.

I know, I know: I suck

Sunday, September 23, 2007 at 11:59 pm

Summer’s over, so it’s not like I can blame my lack of blogging on my higher-than-usual level of activity. The weather is suckage of late (currently 1C, dipping to -3 overnight), but I was out both days this weekend. I’ve been belching out updates on Twitter, though, so it’s not like I’ve completely neglected onlife (see how I cleverly combined online and life there?).

Hell, I bought Bioshock yesterday and haven’t even installed it yet. I installed WoW (a little late to the game, it’s true) a month ago, and heve yet to play it. So what’s going on in the life of Doug that’s keeping him from more frequent posts?

I’m glad you asked. If you come up with an answer, please share.

I wonder what the cover story in the October 1 issue of Maclean’s will do for Canada-US relations?

New Foo, part two

Sunday, September 23, 2007 at 12:47 pm

Yes, it was cool to be able to listen to the entire new Foo Fighters album, streamed off MuchMusic (this Internet fad just keeps getting better and better), but what has really impressed me is the video for The Pretender. The Foos always make good videos, even great ones, and IMHO this new one falls into the latter category. I even bought it off iTunes, but I’d like to find a higher-res version of it.

The song is awesome, and the video drives that home visually. Thanks, superrockstar Dave!

Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace hits stores on Tuesday.
